Liverpool is a birthplace of a rock band, they are The Beatles. The Beatles formed in 1960 with members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. At the beginning of the 1960s, their popularity first emerged as “Beatlemania,” a term describing the intense fan frenzy directed at the British band. The phenomenon started in 1963 and continued with the breakup of the band in 1970.

They became popular in the United Kingdom after their first hit, “Love Me Do,” at the end of 1962. They obtained the surname “Fab Four” as Beatlemania developed in Britain in the previous year. By the beginning of 1964, they had become international stars, prompting the “British Invasion” of the United States pop market. After their break up in 1970, they each enjoyed a good musical career of variable duration. McCartney and Starr, the remaining members, remain involved musically. Lennon was shot and murdered in December 1980, and Harrison died in November 2001 of lung cancer.
