Buckingham Palace is residence of the British royal family and one of the most emblematic places in London. Changing the Guard is one of the palace’s oldest traditions and a unique event that you shouldn’t miss while you visit London. This ceremony is a 45-minute spectacle that marks the handover when a new guard switches places with the old guard who are nearing the end of their shift. This ceremony becomes a part of the history and tradition of the Palace.
The Guard mounted at Buckingham Palace is called The Queen’s Guard and is split into two Detachments which are the Buckingham Palace Detachment who in charge of the Buckingham Palace and the St James Palace Detachment who in charge of St James’ Palace.
In this ceremony, the guard will be wearing their uniform of red tunics and bearskins and be accompanied by a Guards Band, which plays a range of traditional military marches, as well as songs from films and musicals and even famous pop songs.
The ceremony of changing the guard might have some differences on time and date, so kindly check here for the details. To avoid disappointment please check the calendar, to ensure the Changing of the Guard is scheduled to take place and the time the Guard will change. Let’s celebrate the British Royal tradition together.
